Part 4 of my 12-part 2014 songwriting homework assignment entitled "The Garage Demos". One song per month (written, recorded, and released in demo form), created within the environment of an iPad using the Garageband application. A combination of live instrumentation as well as loops and samples will be used to present twelve new songs within one calendar year. Each song will be presented as a "demo", and may or may not reflect the direction where the song will eventually go. Ideally, these songs will be a blueprint for what I hope will be my proper sophomore studio album, following 2012's "Phases".

I needed to break the streak of ballads and come up with a bit of a rocker in comparison to the other new tracks. This one draws obvious sonic influence from the Georgia Satellites, the Four Tops, Chuck Berry, Matthew Sweet, and some lyrical imagery from Bruce Springsteen.

Imagine, if you will, a second chance. She’s catching the first flight back after realizing she’s made a terrible mistake. Feeling misled and stripped of her confidence, she returns to the only thing she knew that was truly real. He waits patiently for her at the terminal, hoping his best is going to be good enough… this time.

The demo for this song was intended to be released on April 30, 2014, but an unexpected bout with the common cold delayed proper attempts at acceptable vocal tracks. The songwriting and recorded music were all completed prior to the end of April. Vocals were completed in early May at the first semi-healthy opportunity.

Early, alternate working titles included “And The Gods Smiled” and “Pretty Little Thing”.

Well, I held my breath 'til you hit the ground
The wheels were singin' a beautiful sound
You were comin' home, you were comin' to stay
Stealin' my attention the usual way

And I knew right from the start
Led by the beat of your heart

Well, it's been too long and you know it's true
Leavin' that scene was the right thing to do
They were stealin' your soul and selling it back
It's all been played out before... the scene fades to black

And I knew right from the start
Led by the beat of your heart

Slip off your shoes, it's gonna be alright
Nobody here's gonna put up a fight
After all of these years, I've been callin' your name
As much as we've changed, babe, we're still the same

And I knew right from the start
Led by the beat of your heart
