about

Part 2 of my 12-part 2014 songwriting homework assignment entitled "The Garage Demos". One song per month (written, recorded, and released in demo form), created within the environment of an iPad using the GarageBand application. A combination of live instrumentation as well as loops and samples will be used to present twelve new songs within one calendar year. Each song will be presented as a "demo", and may or may not reflect the direction where the song will eventually go. Ideally, these songs will be a blueprint for what I hope will be my proper sophomore studio album, following 2012's "Phases".

"The Pain I Kill" is either an example of drinking to forget... or simply raising a glass to those we shall never forget. You get to make the call, although I can make the argument for both sides. Perhaps it's better left unsettled. As they say... life happens 'round here. It's all how you deal with it.

lyrics

Reminisce the ironclad
Dreams play back the times been had
An empty glass to be refilled
Here's to you, the pain I kill

On a widow's walk with head in hands
A man in black strikes up the band
Then all is well on Telegraph Hill
Here's to you, the pain I kill

Knock it down, it comes back twice as strong
Invite it in, it stays twice as long
The setting darkness breeds contempt in me
And it always will, yes it always will
The pain I kill

Listen to the serenade
Dance alone or leave betrayed
The flames of life can bring a chill
Here's to you, the pain I kill

Falling from a higher place
A brave attempt to steal the face
While spinning tales of one man's will
Here's to you, the pain I kill

Knock it down, it comes back twice as strong
Invite it in, it stays twice as long
The setting darkness breed contempt in me
And it always will, yes it always will
The pain I kill
The pain I kill
The pain I kill
The pain I kill
